Zechariah 7:8-10
Chapter 7 of Zechariah is called, “A Call to Justice and Mercy”. This message from God was so important that the writer (probably Zechariah) put the date of December 7th and said it was the fourth year of King Darius' reign. The Temple had been destroyed and they wanted to know if they should continue mourning the loss. This was during their 70 years of exile in Babylon.
Mercy, as you see in our verses today does not only come from God to us. WE can and should show mercy to others. We know that Jesus said in Luke 6:37 that we must forgive others and we will be forgiven. Mercy is similar. Why do we want it from God and for ourselves, but wecwon’t give it to anyone?
Being merciful to someone does not mean you just forget what they did. It also doesn’t mean you HAVE to have them in your life. Withholding forgiveness or mercy really only hurts ourselves. Is there anyone in your life right now that you could be merciful towards?
