Titus 3:3-6
Titus was a missionary who traveled with Paul to Crete. Paul was writing a letter to encourage him in his work. He probably wanted to remind him of a few things too. The tile of Chapter 3 is “Do What Is Good”. Keep in mind, Paul was a Pharisee. A devoted man of the Law who persecuted, jailed, and killed Christians for following Jesus. He was living by the Law though and following its rules. He wasn’t an idol worshipper of some fake little g god.
And yet, look how he describes himself in vers 3. Paul realizes that he was NOT living the Jesus way and he talks about our Savior’s kindness & love BECAUSE of His mercy. We have a new birth and new life through Christ in the Spirit. That's what mercy does for us!
