Hebrews 2:16-17

Starting at verse 5 of Hebrews chapter 2, the title in my Bible is “Jesus, The Man”. Paul takes until verse 18 to talk about Jesus. It’s a really good reminder or just a good way to understand more about Him if you haven’t read it.

I picked these two verses because we learn that Jesus came to help the descendants of Abraham, that He was made in every respect like us, AND that He is our merciful and faithful High Priest.

In Jewish culture, when God established Israel after they left Egypt, He created the Temple as His dwelling place, the worship leaders, and the Priests. Exodus chapter 30 is all about their clothing. They were very important when it came to the forgiving of sins. They had to have a Priest do sin offerings. The High Priest went into the Holy of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant was once a year. He had a very important job.

This is one reason why they hated Jesus, He was showing them through His death, burial, and resurrection that no one has to go to God for you. We can go straight to Him ourselves. Jesus is our merciful and faithful High Priest!
