Romans 6:20-23
Paul wrote Romans while he was in Corinth probably in the spring of AD 57. At this point, he had not yet been to Rome. This letter went to the Roman house churches. He was trying to help them be united and avoid fights and false teachings. A lot of people use verses from Romans that have been pieced together to explain salvation called “The Roman Road”. One of our verses is part of that.
In the Greek, the word slave was used figuratively but Paul was trying to get his point across. A slave is normally someone who is controlled by someone else. They tell the person what to do and mistreat them. Paul was trying to convey that sin holds people in slavery. It makes them do things and runs their lives… in a bad way.
When we give our hearts and lives to God through Jesus, we allow them to tell us what to do and we are free from the power of sin and death. Instead of bad things that lead to death, we do things that will lead to life!
