Psalm 86:14-16

Today's verses are part of a prayer that David wrote. The entire chapter is good! (He mentions mercy 3 times in this chapter.) My NLT Bible says “insolent people rise up against me.” Insolent is defined as “boldly rude or disrespectful.” The KJV uses the word proud. The Complete Jewish Bible and the NIV use the word arrogant. I guess you can imagine what the people were like that were coming against David. It could have been during his running from Saul years, but I’m not sure.

What I do know is that verse 15 shows us God’s amazing character. No matter what happened in the Old Testament , you have to see Him through this viewpoint. God is FULL of compassion and mercy. He is SLOW to anger and He is FULL of unfailing love and faithfulness. That's the God we love and serve. And that's the character traits we can have the more we get to know Him and let Him shape us into who He wants us to be.

David is asking God for mercy because he needs God to help him get through something. We can do the same. Praying for God to have mercy, which He already does, just helps us. We know His character. We know He loves us. We were given mercy by Jesus dying on the cross for us. BUT GOD does so much more than that! Cry out to Him if you need help. He hears you!
