Psalm 23:4-6 NLT
Psalm 23 is a very popular one. People use it a lot at funerals too for some reason. I personally find it comforting when I’m going through something hard. All throughout the Bible, God is called our Shepherd. We are compared to sheep. You know why? Because sheep literally can not survive without their shepherd. They can’t defend themselves AT ALL! We should not try to defend ourselves either.
We can let God lead us through the valley and trust that He is there. He protects, leads, and guides us. The rod and staff are a comfort and leading thing. They aren’t necessarily for punishment.
God loves to care for us and while the enemy might be attacking, God is doing everything verse 5 says.
I absolutely love verse 6 in the NLT version because it says that God’s goodness and unfailing love PURSUE us. Pursue is WAY different from follow. Follow sounds like you are just doing your own thing and they are behind you. Pursue makes me think they are trying to catch me in order to bless me. God wants to give us His goodness and unfailing love.
When we go through hard times, God is right there. He never leaves or forsakes us. Areb’t you glad about that? I know I am!
