Proverbs 4:23-27

Most of us have probably heard verse 23 before. It’s a good one! Our “heart” is our inner most being. Our thoughts, desires, and just who we are. If we don’t guard it, anyone or anything can lead us astray.

Verse 24 seems as if it doesn’t belong, but oh does it! I am my own worse enemy. I am literally living a life I prayed for and dreamed of, and yet my self talk about my body is terrible! Perverse is defined as, “persistent or obstinate in what is wrong”. So when we talk about what is wrong in any way, we are talking in a corrupt manner. I say look for the positives in EVERY situation! (And stop focusing on what’s not like you think it’s supposed to be.)

Let's discuss verses 25-37. My NLT Bible uses words like, “straight”, “fix your eyes”, “mark”, “stay”, “don’t get sidetracked”. These are like pathway words to me. Directional, even. God’s ways are better than the world’s. We can easily get off course if we aren’t careful. It’s wise to look to Jesus, stay on His path & don’t follow evil!
