Proverbs 29:23
“Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.” NLT
Let’s start off today by defining humility & pride. Humility is defined as, “the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one’s own importance.” I know I wrote about the definition of pride this month, but I want it here again with humility. Pride is defined as, “a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.”
In layman’s terms, pride is thinking too highly of yourself and humility is being modest & not putting yourself above others. If we are prideful we should be prepared to be humbled. Because humiliation means you willl be embarrassed in front of others. Pride is not a good thing when it comes to ourselves. I mean, I’m super proud of all my children and that’s ok. It’s not me placing myself above anyone. You know?
Being humble has a line as well. We need to know where our value comes from. We don’t humble ourselves to the point that we think so little of ourselves & we put everyone & everything above ourselves. (I feel like I lived most of my life that way to a point.) People pleasing and wanting to be loved is not really healthy either.
At times, check your pride and be sure you aren’t living puffed up. But also, stay humble enough that God’s light shines through you.
