Proverbs 20:19
“A gossip goes around telling secrets, so don’t hang around with chatterers.” NLT
There are a lot of things the church sees as sins, but for some reason, gossip isn’t one of them. Gossip is talking about someone behind their back and telling their business. Sometimes, gossip is even about people you don’t know.
One bad trait Christians have developed is using gossip as a “prayer request”. That doesn’t make it right.
The real issue here is that people who gossip have problems of their own. They like pointing out other people’s issues in order to make themselves feel better. It’s sad, but it’s the truth. If you are like me, and do your best to not get drawn into gossip, way to go! Solomon is warning us here to not hang out with people who do that. When someone else is gossiping, it tempts us to talk too. Do your best to cut it off and limit your time around people who do. Pray for the person who gossips. Ask God to help them. He will.
