Proverbs 17:22

I looked up our verse today in 5 different Bible translations. They all say the same thing, just with a word or two different. The first part of the verse had cheerful/ happy/ merry & joyful. A heart that is any of those things is good “medicine”. Of course Solomon, who wrote this, knew that medicine is medicine, so this is his way of using it as an example.

The truth is, when your heart is cheerful, merry, or joyful… you feel GOOD! Some of my friends deal with a lot on a daily basis. They have pain in their bodies, family members in pain, and one is going through radiation and chemo daily- it can get overwhelming. BUT, like this verse says- being cheerful can help.

As soon as you get down or depressed, you will zap your strength. It's harder to get out of bed every day when your spirit is crushed. Being a Christ follower means we have HIM with us and we have hope. Hope of healing whatever is in our body that shouldn’t be because HE is the Great Physician!
