Matthew 8:7-10
Starting today, we will spend the rest of the month writing from the New Testament. These will be Jesus healings and more! Today's verses are when the Roman officer came to Jesus to ask for his servant to be healed. No one really knows why this servant was so important to him. The Chosen TV series made the servant his actual son. Which could be the case.
The truth is, the officer wanted the person healed but also had faith that if Jesus just said the word, healing would take place. He didb’t believe that Jesus needed to touch the person.
Verse 9 is more significant then we realize, too. The Roman officer is basically trying to prove that Jesus has authority over sickness just like he had authority over the workers under his command. This man, not an Israelite, hasn’t heard the miracles of their people from the beginning, KNEW that one word from Jesus would be all it took.
And he was right! In verse 10, Jesus praises the faith of the Roman officer. I want to point something out, but I need you to hear me. Faith is believing without seeing, right? A lot of times, we have faith for others and not ourselves. It’s not shameful to ask for prayer for sickness. (The Bible even says you can be healed because of the prayers of others. James 5:16)
HEAR ME ON THIS: do not let the enemy twist anything. If you have the faith and others have prayed for you, but you are still struggling- DO NOT GIVE UP! God heard the prayers, your faith IS enough, your miracle is coming. God’s got you!!
