Matthew 8:13-17

Our verses today pick up just a few down from yesterday. We see that Jesus really did heal the Roman Officer's servant. He never went to his home or touched the servant. He merely said, “Because you believe it, it has happened.” I love how Jesus did things while He was here.

Obviously, Jesus had been on His way to Peter’s house when the Roman Officer approached Him. When He got there, Peter's mother-in-law was sick with a fever. This healing was by touch. Jesus touched her hand and the fever left. She did not need to stay in bed and recover. She was well enough to get up and cook Jesus food.

Verse 16 is pretty self explanatory. It’s part of why He came to earth- to heal the sick and cast out demons. Demons are the angels that came to earth with Lucifer aka satan. They enjoy bothering people and hurting them. Jesus enjoys sending them away from His kids.

This morning, even though I’ve read it many times, verse 17 hit me. We usually attribute Isaiah's words in chapter 53, verse 4 as what Jesus did on the cross, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.” But Matthew has given that prophetic word power for right then, as Jesus was actually healing the sick. I never realized that until now. Matthew is proving that Jesus the Messiah who was predicted all those years so by Isaiah, was doing exactly what the verses said. How awesome is that?
