Matthew 2:9-11

Today's verses are about the wise men who followed a star to find Jesus. The Bible describes them as from the east, which is east of Bethlehem. King Herod asked the wise men to come visit him after he refreshed his memory on where the Messiah was to be born. Our verses are after he met with them.

Scholars aren’t sure exactly how long these wise men had been traveling, but it had to be a couple of years. I would think I’d have joy too if I had been traveling for 2 years to find someone and then realized how close we were.

These men were not Jewish. They didn’t know the Torah or the prophecies, but they knew that Star was different so they followed it. I'm not sure what compelled them to give Jesus gifts, but I believe it was God’s provision to get them to Egypt. God is really good at that kind of stuff.
