Mark 5:35-36
I realize we are missing a lot of information, so let me explain. Starting at verse 21, Jesus had just come back from across the lake on a boat. (I don’t think this was related to yesterday's verses.) As soon as He stepped on shore, Jairu’s, a local synagogue leader approached and asked Jesus to please come to his home to heal his daughter because she was sick.
A crowd had gathered, so they were surrounded by people. This was when the woman with the issue of blood touched His garment and was healed. Both she and James had the faith to believe that one touch from Jesus could heal.
Our verses are Jesus talking to the woman who had just been healed. As He was finishing up, Jairus’s people came to tell him his daughter died. Jesus comforted him by telling him not to be afraid and to have faith. (Which he already had because he believed Jesus could heal her, but that had to be hard.)
This was such a unique time for Jesus to tell someone not to be afraid. I mean death was death, right? God had a plan for this child and this event. If you keep reading, Jesus told the mourners that she was just asleep. He healed her and brought her back with her parents, Peter, James, & John in the room. I actually think The Chosen Tv show did a great job with these verses. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend watching it.
