Mark 4:39-40

I know there is a lot of context missing. That’s only because I didn’t want to make us write too much. Starting at verse 35, the title in my Bible is “Jesus Calms The Storm.” Jesus had been teaching and was ready to cross to the other side of the lake. They got in the boat and other boats followed. (That means there were more eye witnesses to this event than just the disciples.)

Jesus was/is fully human and fully God. His human body needed rest just like we do. He was taking a nap on this trip across the lake when a storm popped up. I’m sure He knew it. He could have heard it. He definitely knew the boat was moving and taking on water.

The disciples got scared. I can imagine, you are headed across the lake, but then the storm pops up and you are moving, only back & forth, not really moving forward anymore. Storms can toss and batter a boat. The disciples were afraid of drowning.

They didn’t see a way out. What’s crazy is they accused Jesus of not caring! (He was literally in the boat with them!) Don’t we do that too though?? Something unexpected pops up, and we immediately question if Jesus or God care. My granddaughter got sick last week and ended up in the hospital over night. That was very unexpected, but I wasn’t afraid. I got down on my knees before the LORD and I cried and prayed. He calmed the storm in me just like He did this rain storm.

Jesus cares about everything we are about. He loves us unconditionally and He does not want any storm to try to take us out. When we go through things, we must not believe any lies of the enemy! God doesn’t CAUSE storms! He CALMS them!
