Luke 4:38-39

Today and tomorrow’s verses are under the title, “Jesus Heals Many People” in my Bible. In the verses before, Jesus has come to Capernaum, a town in Galilee. He taught in the synagogue every Sabbath. I’m not sure how long He stayed there, but once a demon possessed man came in and Jesus rebuked it. Our verses come next.

Simon is Peter, before Jesus changed his name. Back a few days ago, on the 17th, Matthew recorded this same healing of Peter's mother-in-law. He connected it with the Roman officer's request to heal his servant. As if it happened on the way to Peter's house. Which it could have. Luke was not an eye witness. BUT he compiled the eye witness stories in his book.

This time, it is told that Jesus rebuked the fever. Matthew mentions He touched her and it left. Either way, Jesus had authority over the fever and it left her. She felt good enough to get up and help people food for Jesus and everyone else there. Generally speaking, fevers are the bodies natural way to fight infection. The medicines back then were SO different, but Jesus was better than medicine. He still can heal anything and everything!
