Joshua 7: 10-12
There are several things happening here in our verses today. God’s relationship in the Old Testament with Israel was always Him loving and them being wishy washy. In history, this was after they went into Jericho, but not all of the cities they were taking over were conquered yet.
God had given them direct instructions. They were spying on a town called Ai. (Which I find very interesting!) One of the spies stole stuff he should not have. That decision brought destruction to the people.
When we are disobedient to things God tells us, we too bring issues on ourselves. God’s ways are good. He isn’t trying to be some dictator up in Heaven trying to destroy our lives. Honestly, it’s the total opposite! Kinda like when you tell a child not to touch a hot stove. Ya know? It’s for their good, not because you are trying to be their boss. It’s also out of love. We don’t like seeing children hurt. God doesn’t like seeing us hurt either. Sometimes we are the ones who caused our own hurt though.
