Genesis 6:14-16

Starting at verse 9 of chapter 6 in Genesis, the story of Noah begins. God’s heart had already been broken by the humans He made. Everyone but Noah and his family were evil.

One of Noah’s first feats was becoming a father at 500 years old. God used to allow humans to live a really long time! Noah was 600 when the flood happened. There is one detail the Bible left out- the amount of time it took Noah to build such a huge boat. Scholars are not sure of the amount of years it took, but there are a few clues.

We know Noah’s sons were married when they went in the boat. If Noah had them at 500 and the flood started when he was 600, then it could have taken anywhere from 100 to 75 years to build. Talk about resilience! This was a massive boat! If he built it alone until his sons could help, then it was a slow build for sure!

If the people were evil enough for God to destroy the earth, then there is a chance they messed with Noah as he built. We really have no idea what he went through in addition to the sheer feat of building an enormous boat before modern technology.

A ministry built a life size version of this boat based on the Bible description in Kentucky. I want to plan a trip to see it. People say its amazing!
