Exodus 33:18-20
Starting at verse 12 of Chapter 33 in Exodus, Moses starts a conversation with God. Moses is basically like, “You’ve told me to take these people to the Promised Land and that You look favorably on me, BUT let me know Your ways better.”
God them told Moses that He was going to go with them. Moses was like, “You better, otherwise we aren’t going anywhere!” So, just like a kid, Moses wanted proof. He wanted to see God’s presence. Here is the most interesting part to me. My NLT, the KJV, and the Complete Jewish Bible all say the same thing- God doesn’t say “I” will pass before you. NO! He says, “I will make ALL My GOODNESS pass before you.” Let that sink in your heart & mind for a minute.
God also then said He will show mercy AND compassion to anyone He chooses. So God uses those words separately. (In my NLT.) It looks like the ESV Bible version uses the word gracious instead of compassion. God picks who He wants! Even if it’s not someone we think deserves His mercy. He does! My heart is just so full with these verses today! Seeing the truth of who God is and how much He loves us makes me joyful!
