Exodus 2:14-15
When Pharaoh's daughter found Moses in the basket, Miriam, his sister was near by. She asked if the princess would like her to get a Hebrew woman to nurse him. Of course, she got their mother. She got paid to raise her own son until he was weened. When his mom gave him to Pharaoh's daughter, she adopted him. Moses knew he was an Israelite. But he had the privilege of growing up in the palace as a prince of Egypt.
After he was grown, he went to see his people and saw how mistreated they were. It made him so angry that he killed an Egyptian guard that was beating one of his people. The very next day, Moses saw two Israelites (aka Hebrews) fighting so he tried to stop them. That’s when our verses pick up.
Moses made a huge mistake thinking he could help his fellow Hebrews by murdering one of their oppressors. That was not the way to help. It forced him to leave the only place he had ever known and all of the lavish ways of a prince.
Sometimes it’s our own decisions that cause us to go through things. But, we can still learn from that and be resilient as we move forward.
Miriam looks far away from Egypt. I will use a map as the social media picture attached to the blog today. It seems as if he really left without anything of his own too. I can only imagine how hard that was.
