Exodus 20:1-4
Starting today for the first of this week, we are writing the 10 Commandments. I’ve never done this before. I am attributing it to Israel’s new beginning. God was clearly giving them (and us later) rules on how to live and the ways He wanted them to be as a newly freed people who were going to become a country.
I can only imagine what living in slavery oh physical labor could actually be like. We know that the Israelites were making bricks & building things. (Some scholars think they built the pyramids.) Theur living conditions were terrible, but God kept blessing them with children and helping them grow. By the time they left, there were approximately 1 million people. That would like like if Atlanta did a mass exodus and left the town.
God is not an ego filled God to where He was demanding they have no other little g gods before Him. He was telling them because it will be helpful to them. We know the story. We see how many times they didn't keep Him first & the trouble it caused. Those little g gods and idols aren’t real. They are man made. They can’t do anything at all. But our God can do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ask or imagine!
