Exodus 14:12-14

Yesterday I mentioned the million people who Moses brought up out of Egypt and today we see them at the Red Sea. They left Egypt after the Passover because Pharaoh was grieving and told them to leave. But then he changed his mind and pursued them.

As Pharaoh and his army of chariots came into view, the Iraelites freaked out and said verse 12 to Moses. I can see why they would be fearful. They had no weapons and no where to go. (They probably out numbered Pharaoh’s army though.)

Moses told them to not be afraid and to stand still. That’s REALLY hard to do when your fight or flight mode kicks in. Listening to God is WAY more wiser and important! Had they run, either direction, surely they could have died. They had NO idea God could open a sea and let them walk across on dry ground. Moses was doing what God told him, but he might not have been totally sure either. He was following step by step instructions from the LORD.

This event actually happened and we now have proof of chariots at the bottom of the Red Sea. Also, Egyptian history recorded the death of that Pharaoh. I’m not sure if they recorded or know how it happened. The Bible says, “Of all the Egyptians who had chased the Israelites into the sea, not a single one survived.” (Exodus 14:28)

Sometimes we get afraid because we feel trapped in a situation we can’t get out of. Give it to God. Then listen! He already knows the outcome and He can get you through ANYTHING!
