Amos 5:14-15

Amos is not a book I have studied a lot. Have you? According to Chapter 1, verse 1, he was a shepherd from Tekoa in Judah. He received a message from God in visions. Chapter 5 in my Bible is titled, “A Call To Repentance”. At this time in history Israel was split into 2 areas with 2 different kings. Of course, that was not how God wanted it done.

Israel & Judah had rebelled against God and they had not learned any lessons! One thing that jumped out at me last month when we read Amos (besides these verses) as part of the Bible Recap is Chapter 3, verse 17 which says, “Indeed, the Sovereign LORD never does anything until He reveals His plans to His servants the prophets.” God always gave warnings to them before He did something, but they weren’t paying attention.

One of the biggest problems with Israel in the Old Testament was them worshipping idols. They made a “god” out of wood or metal or whatever. (We make idols too but not out of wood or metal.) This would cause them to stop living by God’s 10 Commandments and just live however they wanted to.

That's why what Amos says in our verses is true today. Run from evil and we will live!! And while living, God will be our helper. If He did it for them, He will do it for us!
