2 Chronicles 7:13-14
Chapter 7 of 2nd Chronicles starts off with Solomon dedicating the Temple he built for the LORD. If you remember, God would not allow his dad, King David, to build it. Starting in verse 11, God is responding to all that Solomon said during the Temple dedication. God was pleased with the Temple dedication & He was going to allow them to do sacrifices there.
One thing to remember about verse 13. God did things differently in the Old Testament. Many times, He had to allow things in order to teach Israel lessons. They were such a rebellious nation and He HAD to allow things at times in order for them to learn. What He is saying is, “Sometimes bad things might happen to yall, but when you humble yourselves & pray, seek My face, turn from your wicked ways, THEN He would forgive their sins & restore their land.”
People have used verse 14 a lot in regards to America. Our nation was originally founded on Biblical principles and the choice of religion. (In England, they mostly have the Church of England & everyone is just a part of it.) The founding fathers of America wanted people to be able to choose. If you think about it, other countries are predominantly one religion & they don't tolerate Christianity at all. We are blessed to live where we do.
One more thing before we go, I haven’t mentioned this yet. But God is a Promise Keeper. So these IF/ THEN promises are even more special. IF we do what He said to, He WILL do what He said He would. He cannot lie. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken & failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through?” Keep that in mind this month as you see these promises.
