2nd Samuel 5:1-4
Ishbosheth was one of Saul’s sons. Upon hearing of Saul’s death, Abner, the commander of Saul’s army, helped him become ruler over Israel. He was 40 years old at the time. He was NOT anointed and appointed by God. This divided the country did have war against each other then the war slips between those loyal to Saul (who was dead) and those loyal to David.
2 men murdered Ishbosheth thinking it would please David. It did not. David never wanted Saul or his family killed. There was so much honor in him. Even though he knew that God had anointed and appointed HIM, he was not revengeful. Most men would have gone on a killing spree to get rid of Saul & all of his descendants. But not David, a man after God’s own heart.
Once David handled these 2 murderers, our verses happen. He had so many ups and downs during this 30 years of his life. He really is to be admired for how he lives. (Up until what we see happen in tomorrow’s verses!)
