2nd Peter 2:18-19
Chapter 2 of 2nd Peter is titled, “The Danger of False Teachers”. When Peter wrote this, Jesus had been back in Heaven for years. He wrote these letters to the churches in other towns that he helped start.
In our verses Peter is referring to these false teachers. Their promises of freedom to others is false. Doing whatever makes you feel good is not freedom. It’s actually being enslaved to sin. It’s one thing to do whatever with yourself, it's another to drag someone down with you. I like Peter's truth in the last sentence- “you are a slave to whatever controls you”, really hits home with me. I don’t think I let anything negative control me. I know I could let Holy Spirit do more. What about you? Does anything come to mind?
