1st Samuel 18:12-14

When the warriors came back to town after David killed Goliath, the women in town came out to meet them. They sang, “Saul has killed his thousands, and David has killed TEN thousands!” At the moment, it was not true. David had killed one man. Saul got angry AND jealous. That was not a good combination!

In our verses, Saul appoints David as commander of a 1,000 man army. He probably secretly wished David would get killed. These events are such lessons for us.

  1. Always follow God’s instructions

  2. Keep yourself in check with anger & jealousy

  3. When you do what God says, you will be successful

David’s life has a lot of ups and downs before it’s over. He had times when he majorly got off course. But he started off pretty good. And God knew that he was going to have times of disobedience himself, but God used David to be the family line of Jesus. How cool is that?!
