1 Samuel 7:3-4

My Bible is a coloring & journaling type. In the lines out beside these verses, I wrote, “Idol worship blocks God from us”. We probably don't have golden objects or wooden figures that we are worshipping. But if we aren’t careful, we too, can have idols.

An idol is anything we put in our hearts before God. It can be good things too. Like our children. I had someone tell me once he thought I had my children in “too high regard” in my life. I didn’t, they are just miracles, so I’m very appreciative of them. God is first!

If we go to our friends, family, or spouse BEFORE God, they might be an idol. God wants 1st place in our hearts and lives. He deserves it after all. He has done SO much for us! I don’t think God would full on take disciplinary action out on us like He did Israel. But I do think WE can cause issues for ourselves because as I’ve said before, WE step out from under God’s protective umbrella. When that happens, it's hard for Him to intervene because WE moved away from Him.
