Deuteronomy 4:29
Starting at verse 15 of chapter 4 in Deuteronomy, my Bible has the title, “A Warning Against Idolatry”. As I have been reading the Bible with The Bible Recap, I see so much about Israel worshipping idols. All throughout their history they would just disobey God and worship a piece or wood or something man made.
God harshly warned Israel through Moses to not break His covenant and He told them the consequences if they did. God doesn’t play hide & seek. He WANTS to be found and be in a relationship with us. (Of course, He wanted that with them as well.)
Sometimes, when people ask, “Where was your God when this happened?” I want to say, “Right there in the middle helping & doing what He could.” He doesn't do bad stuff to us. He is good and He can only do good. I know it doesn’t feel that way sometimes while reading the Old Testament, but that's about justice and/ or obedience. God had to allow things to happen to Israel for those reasons.
God is a gentleman who gave His creation free will. While He can try to stop bad things, He can’t over ride someone's free will. That’s probably why He tells us in Romans that He will turn the bad into good. (Romans 8:28)
