1 Peter 4:14-15
It's always interesting to me when I read from Peter. We know him as the “hot headed” disciple who was first introduced to Jesus by his brother Andrew. Scholars believe 1st Peter was written while he was under house arrest probably between AD 62 and 64. This letter was written to Christians in Asia Manor.
We are SO blessed in the USA to serve God and not be persecuted. In other countries, church services are shut down and the government charges them fines. Not to mention the under ground churches who have to hide in order to have services. Peter was trying to encourage these new believers to know that God would get them through any insults hurled at them because of their Christianity.
Verse 15 is interesting, because if people were doing those things listed, they wouldn't really be living for God anyway, I wouldn’t think. We would bring suffering on ourselves if we were doing that.
Suffering because we take a stand for Jesus and on our faith is something that we can know will be handled by God. He is our defender!
