Romans 15:13
I love this verse so much I have it circled in blue in my Bible! God is good and He can only give good things. He does not “give” people anxiety. He is our source of hope, joy, and peace. Those 3 things have a way of battling anxiety.
What exactly is hope anyway? Glad you asked! It is defined in the dictionary as a feeling but Hebrews 6:19 says, “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.” How about that definition? I want my soul anchored to God in hope so that when anxiety tries to yield its ugly head, I am then firm and not rocked.
Joy is not happiness. Happiness is based on circumstances. It’s ebbs and flows. It is NOT constant. Joy, on the other hand, IS constant. It is in us. We just have to access it. Joy is available to us in the midst of anything because it comes from the Holy Spirit. As believers, we have Him in us, therefore Joy is always there too.
Peace is the same way. It comes from the Holy Spirit and Jesus. He was called the Prince of Peace, after all. Jesus said in John 14:37, “I AM leaving you with a gift- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
But wait! There is more! The key to all of this is trusting HIM! Anxiety puts you in a false sense of control. It makes you think that by constantly focusing on what could happen, you are in control of said event. Uh, Nope! That’s a lie. Trusting God gets rid of anxiety. Believing that He has a plan for you, has your best interests at heart, and that He won’t hurt you is the way to freedom!
