Psalm 5:11-12

David starts out by asking God to hear his prayers in verse 1 of this chapter. Then, he ends up knowing that he can take refuge in God and rejoice no matter what. David had so many ups and downs in his life. These songs aka psalms just poured from his heart.

Two things in my NLT version that I love…. verse 11 says, “spread Your protection over them”. My mind went to spreading butter on toast. You know how you make sure every area of the toast is covered? God’s protection is like that. However, He can do everything but one. He cannot over ride human free will. If we make a decision that hurts us, God was protecting us but He can’t always stop us. (Or people who hurt us.)

In verse 12, my Bible says, “surround them with Your shield of love”. The thought of that makes me happy. God literally does love us more than any human on earth. I’m thankful for that!

Life will never be trouble free. Jesus told us that. Thankfully, we won’t deal with half of the things David did. If he could take refuge in the LORD and be joyful, we can too!
