Psalm 34:4-5

Psalm 34 was written by David. In fact, it gives a specific time in his life. (1st Samuel 21) It is also a Hebrew acrostic poem. Each verse begins with a Hebrew letter and they go in order.

David had several years of his life spent running from King Saul. King Saul was the very first King of Israel. The people wanted a King, so God appointed one. However, the power went to his head and Saul disobeyed God. God then told Samuel to go to the house of Jesse, where he would anoint a new King. David was the youngest son and a shepherd boy. Eventually, Saul found out who his successor would be. So he chased David in order to kill him. This was AFTER David had been in his home, was best friends with his son, and had married Saul’s daughter!

You would think David would have no fears, but he did. He did not want to die. He ran, hid, and tried his best to stay away from Saul. David prayed to the LORD about what he was afraid of and God answered! Not only did He free him from all his fears, but he became radiant with JOY too!! God exchanged fear for joy!

I have a note in my Bible next to verse 4. “My mom breast cancer April 2022”. It’s been 4 years. She is now cancer free and I was comforted by this verse. I did not need to fear as I prayed, God heard me and freed me from them. Have you experienced something like that? What were you afraid of at the time?
