Luke 16:13

This verse does not have the words “free” or “freedom”, so i’m going to explain the other side. Our verse is Jesus teaching. Chapter 16 is titled, “Parable of the Shrewd Manager”. Enslaved is defined as, “made a slave; held in slavery or bondage”. The parable Jesus taught was about a manager that was about to be fired because he was wasting his bosses money. The manager called the people who owed his boss things and negotiated to let them pay less.

In verse 9, Jesus says, “Here's the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.” Right after that is where Jesus talks about us being faithful with little, we will be given more.

God wants to be first in our lives. His being first is what brings us freedom. If we allow money (or anything else for that matter) to be above God, we have allowed that thing or person to enslave us. God wants us to be free!
