Luke 1:26-29
It's almost Christmas, so of course we have to talk about the angels who were involved in Jesus’ birth. We start off with the announcement to Mary. Gabriel was one the very important angels that got listed & named in the Bible. We don’t know where Mary was at the time of this meeting. Some artists show her working with animals, others in a field, they just took artistic liberties since the Bible isn’t specific.
Elizabeth is Mary’s cousin who was pregnant with John the Baptist. The reason God wanted us to know she was 6 months along is because Mary goes to tell Elizabeth about this encounter a few days after it happens.
We know that Mary was young and a virgin. She was purposefully waiting to have sex until she was married. (Which I believe is God’s desire for all of us.) God found favor in her and wanted Jesus to have her DNA as well as her to be Jesus's mother. The best way to tell her was to send Gabriel down. I’m sure he took on a human form so she would be less afraid. What do you think you’d do if an angel talked to you?
