Joshua 1:8-9

I have written these verses several times over the years but today it dawned on me that verse 8 should be what my own mission is! (I upgraded it on my site.) In context and history, this was God talking to Joshua after Moses passed away. Moses had been recording everything that God told him to. He wrote the first 5 books of the Bible. They were/are God’s instructions. (So is the rest of His Word, as well.)

It helps us when we stay in the Word. We can replace lies with truth. We can get to know our Creator. We can apply truths and God’s ways to our lives. Right here, God says we will prosper and succeed in all we do if we study and meditate on His Word. God wanted Joshua to follow the ways He had told Moses to lead the nation of Israel.

3 times in chapter 1 of Joshua, God tells him to be strong and courageous. When God says something 3 times, we need to listen! God also through in the “do not be afraid” part into verse 9. It's hard to be afraid if you are being strong and courageous, isn’t it? Notice something though, God didn’t suggest this, He commanded it. The only way I know to not be afraid is by turning everything over to God. When fear tries to drag you down, RUN to Him with it in prayer. Run to His Word and read it out loud. Don't allow fear to over take you. God is for you and with you!
