John 11:33-35

Chapter 11 verse 1 to 44 is the story of Lazarus’ death and resurrection. I’m sure you are wondering why I put these verses in with a suffering list. Simple- Jesus hurts when we hurt and this is our proof.

Jesus was friends with Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. He had taught the Word in their home and become good friends. Jesus was / is fully God and fully man. He could stop anything but a human’s free will. We never hear exactly what was wrong with Lazarus, just that he was sick. The hard part was, He told them in verse 4 that it would not end in death and it was for God’s glory. They only heard, “not end in death” part. So when Lazarus died, they had a crisis of faith, were angry at Jesus, and probably doubted Him too. How many times have we felt that mixture of emotions going through something?

Even though I’m SURE Jesus KNEW He was going to bring Lazarus back to life, He felt so much compassion for Mary and Martha that He cried too. They loved Jesus but they had no idea just how much He loved them until that moment.

He is with us in the storms of life! He is for you and He knows how you feel!
