Hebrews 12:1-2

If you notice on this month’s list, we will be writing out of Hebrews a good bit. The writer of Hebrews never identifies himself. We know it’s not Paul because he always let it be known that he was the writer. Whoever it is, they were filled with faith and had obviously endured some hard times. (If you get a second, read today’s verses in the NLT version. I will explain why in a minute.)

Whether we realize it or not, people are watching us. They see us going through things and how we handle it. Those are the “witnesses”. Stripping off every weight that slows us down is a really good visual. While some times people use weights to build muscle, these types of weights can cause set backs, something we DO NOT want. Sin is heavy. All types of sin. Especially after you give your heart & life to Jesus. That’s because the Holy Spirit wants us to not sit in any sin. You can endure hardships easier without that extra weight.

My NLT Bible calls Jesus the Champion who initiates & perfects our faith. A Champion is “a person who has defeated all opponents in a competition or series of competitions, so as to hold first place.” Jesus beat death, hell, & the enemy by what He did on the cross! I’d say He is my Champion for sure!
