Colossians 1:11-14
I know it’s a good bit to write today, but it’s worth it! Colossians was written by Paul who wrote it during his first Roman imprisonment in the early AD 60’s. The Colossians were a Greek Hellenistic culture, which means they mixed traditions of theirs with Egyptian and Persian ways. You can imagine all of the different things they believed and celebrated.
Verses 11 and 12 are almost a blessing that Paul is saying over everyone who reads this. One thing I love about the Bible and Holy Spirit is, even though we know the history, we can apply this to our lives thousands of years later. How cool is that? Paul wants us to be FILLED with joy and thanking our Father for all He’s done.
Then, he listed a few things. God has enabled us to share in the inheritance of His people. We were adopted into the family, therefore becoming co-heirs with Christ. We live in light! God transformed us from the darkness into His marvelous light. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross, which purchased our freedom. The forgiveness of our sins should also be something that brings us joy!
