2nd Timothy 1:6-7

We wrote these verses last month because our list was about fear. This is one reason I love the Bible! It is active and alive. These verses can be used for several things. Fear can be anxious thoughts but let’s talk about timidity. Timid is defined as, “lacking of self assurance, courage, or bravery; easily alarmed”. In my opinion, this definition explains components that lead to anxious thoughts. I know it’s happened to me before.

In these verses Paul is encouraging Timothy to use the spiritual gifts God had given him and to not allow the spirit of fear and timidity to get to him. This tells us that these things aren’t from God and are only here to cause us problems. We must push past anxious thoughts by telling them to go away in Jesus name. A Holy Spirit filled Christian has the authority from Christ to rebuke things not of God. This takes self-discipline, which Paul reminds us that God gave us.

Anxiety does not need to have control over anyone. God doesn’t want it to either.
