1st Timothy 4:3-5

As I have said before, God gave the 10 Commandments but the Jewish leaders added about 600 more “rules” to them. Some had to do with food. There were certain foods that were called “unclean”, one of them being pork. I’m sure they upheld that rule because they agreed with it and thought that was what God said to stay away from.

God changed this “rule” through Peter by showing him in a vision the meats he was allowed to eat. (Acts 10:9-16) This was God’s way of reaching the Gentile people and freeing the Jewish ones. I believe that vision of Peter’s is what Paul is referencing here to Timothy. I also think it’s a gentle reminder for us.

I will admit, I am the worst when it comes to saying the blessing before meals. I need to do better. Thanking God for our good is a good thing. Sometimes I will pray and thank God for our house, jobs, food, heater, clothes, vehicles, etc. I think God is cool with that, even basic as it is. It all came from Him anyway, right?
