1st Samuel 18:6-7
I had no idea that Israel would be in the news when I created this list. Throughout the Old Testament, we see Israel at war many times. These verses are at the particular time after David killed Goliath. Keep in mind, God had already anointed David as King in Chapter 16 of 1st Samuel. Saul was still reigning though and had not released the throne.
At this point, I believe Goliath was the only enemy David had killed. But this victory over the Philistines brought joy to their country. So much joy that the women were dancing in the streets. (Which ironically is what happened in Iran this weekend.) The women exaggerated the truth of David’s kill which started Saul’s jealousy of him. Jealousy is not good for anyone. But JOY is!
Joy and happiness are not the same. Joy is internal and from the Lord. Happiness is based on circumstances and emotions. I hope we have some great conversations about joy this month!
