1st Samuel 10:1-2
In chapter 9 of 1st Samuel, Saul and Samuel met. According to the Bible, Saul was the most handsome man in Israel and he was tall. Saul’s dad lost some donkeys so he sent Saul and a servant out to find them. The servant with Saul knew they were in the town that Samuel was in. He suggested they ask Samuel where to look for the donkeys.
Of course God has already told Samuel about Saul coming to that town that day. Samuel told him the donkeys had already been found and that he and his family “are the focus of all Israel’s hopes.” Saul said something that Gideon said in chapter 9, verse 21. You could see his humbled heart. (Keep that thought for tomorrow.)
Samuel fed Saul and the servant and had them stay over night. As they were headed out of town, Samuel told Saul to send the servant on ahead because he had a special message from God for him. Then our verses happen. God spoke to Samuel daily, I’m sure. And especially on these types of occasions.
Anointing a king and sharing God’s messages was a very important job for Samuel. I think it’s amazing that he was so close to God and he heard Him daily.
