1st Peter 5:6-7
Sorry for starting our verses off with a “so”, but I will explain why. Chapter 5 was titled, “Advice for elders and young men”. Peter was addressing issues in the church this letter was going to. He was advising the older church members to care for their members willingly and from a good heart and mindset. In verse 5, he says for the younger people to accept the authority of the elders. He quotes Proverbs 3:34 (the Greek version) that says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
We have to humble ourselves in order to give God our worries, cares, and anxieties, right? (And allow elders to lead us.) Because pride is what makes us think we can handle it on our own. When we think either that God is too busy, doesn’t care about us, or that we can handle our own anxieties, we have a pride issue. God doesn’t want nor expect us to have it all together. He loves us unconditionally and He wants to help us live the abundant life Jesus came to give us!
