1 Corinthians 15:32-34
Chapter 15 is broken down into 3 sections, The Resurrection of Christ, The Resurrection of the Dead, & The Resurrection of the Body. Our verses are under “The Resurrection of the Dead”. Paul was mentioning how he risked death daily to spread the Gospel. And he is basically saying what’s the point in fighting for the Gospel if we die and aren’t resurrected one day ourselves.
He was saying not to keep company with people who just want to live it up in life and think there are no consequences. In verse 33 he says for us to not be fooled by people who talk like that because “bad company corrupts good character”. In my research, it seems as if Paul might be quoting a Greek play that was written about a woman in Greek history named Thais. She was around during Alexander The Great’s time on earth. She gave speeches, discussions, celebrations, and lots of eating & drinking.
Regardless of who Paul was quoting, it’s GREAT advice! If studies show that you are a combination of the 5 people you spend the most time with, then adding someone who is not living like you is very tempting. They could pull you AWAY from God instead of you pulling them to Him. We can’t let people lead us astray. We do need to talk to who aren’t saved and lead them to Jesus, but having someone who totally lives for the world could definitely take us down a bad path. Be careful who you hang out with the most.
