Numbers 14:10-11

Numbers 13 verses 25-33 is titled, “The Scouting Report”. After the 12 spies stayed 40 days checking out the Promised Land, Joshua and Caleb are the only 2 who said they could take the land. They felt like not going in was rebellion against the LORD and they called out the fear of the other spies.

Most folks don’t like being called out or corrected in front of others. When they said what they did in Numbers 14:5-9, they tore their clothes, which in their culture was a sign of grief. Out of 12 men, only 2 were not afraid AND trusted God. So what happens? They were threatened with being stoned to death. How terrible!

Joshua already seems very brave, but he has already gone through a lot. The Bible doesn’t talk about what happened during their 40 day trip. He could have been alone. I wouldb’t think 12 of them would stay together. That would draw a lot of attention. Ultimately, this boils down to trusting God. God promised something, but they didn’t believe it. Joshua and Caleb did.

Do you struggle with believing God’s promises? How can I pray for you on that?
