Joshua 6:1-5
5 verses is a lot to write today, but it’s so interesting. Joshua has just become the leader of Israel. He sent spies in again to do some recon. Rehab protected the spies, so they spared her and her famiky’s lives. (Side note, Jesus's lineage goes back to her!)
In order to get to Jericho, the Israelites have to get through the Jordan River at flood stage. Once again, God stops water and they went through on DRY ground. They made a memorial after they crossed. On top of all this, Joshua had to circumcise the men before they kept going. Everyone who was old enough to fight in battle when they left Egypt had died and they had not been circumcising during the years in the wilderness. They stayed in camp until they were healed.
An angel visited Joshua and gave him the instructions we wrote today. Now, if you noticed, our verses said “you and your FIGHTING men.” I think, in my mind, I had EVR’body walking around the walls of Jericho. That’s not what the Bible says. The women & children & non-fighting men must have stayed at camp.
Don't you just love how God does things? Those walls protected the city and in the most unusual way, He brought them down & turned them into ramps, so they could go right in. Joshua was a great leader or obeyed God!
