John 20:6-10

Today we start a 5 day journey in the Book of John. I know we just celebrated Easter and we probably all know this very well, but maybe I will point out something you haven't thought about before.

We aren't writing the verses about Mary & Mary going to the tomb Sunday morning. But let’s remember there was a large stone and armed guards there. It’s kind of sad that the Romans placed both in order to keep His disciples from stealing the body & claiming a false resurrection. Sounds like they had heard Jesus talk about this. (Matthew 27:62-65)

That stone was massive! It would have taken several soldiers to roll it into place. So that’s a huge indication that something supernatural happened. Also, I find it so interesting that Jesus folded up and LEFT His grave wrappings. If you remember, Lazarus came out in his grave clothes. Jesus folded His and left them in the tomb. There is a reason for the head cloth lying away from the rest. Jesus didn’t do that on accident. Why do you think He did that?

When Peter and John saw the tomb empty & the wrappings there, they believed. They probably remembered the times He told them but they didn’t really get it. It all made sense in that moment.

I wonder why Jesus didn’t just sit there alive? They could have met Him there and seen Him right away. I think He wanted them to really experience that empty tomb moment of both awe & wonder as well as fear. Mary thought His body had been stolen. More on that tomorrow.
