Genesis 32:1-2
I know today’s verses need context, but I had to share them because I don’t remember reading them before. (Even though I know I have.) Jacob was something else! A brief history for us this morning….. Jacob had a twin brother named Esau. Their parents were Isaac & Rebekah. Esau was born first and in their culture, he was to receive the family blessing and all that went with it. Jacob stole that blessing.
Isaac sent Jacob to another town to find a wife. He was tricked into marrying Laban’s first born daughter but he actually loved his other daughter, Rachel. Jacob’s father-in-law had been too involved and Jacob’s family kept getting larger, so in Chapter 31, we see him leaving his father-in-law’s with his wives, kids, wealth, livestock & more. Problem was, Jacob wanted to go home but he was afraid of Esau and Laban chased after them.
Jacob made a treaty with Laban in a town on his way to Esau’s. That’s when our verses happen. Angels met him on that land and he knew that God was there because of it. I’m sure those angels brought him comfort and just reminded him that God was with him. What do you think?
