Galatians 2:4-5
Jesus met Paul on his way to Damascus where he was planning on jailing Christians. He had already witnessed Stephen's stoning. He was radically against this new movement and change in the Jewish culture. 3 years after he met Jesus, he went to Jerusalem to get to know Peter and he met James, Jesus's brother.
After all of his journies, 14 years later, he returned to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas and Titus. Titus was considered a “Gentile” which basically means he was not a Jewish person. Most of the people did not try to demand Titus get circumcised. But then our verse happened. Someone who was not really living for Jesus snuck in to where they were and tried to bring religion on them.
Religion is just rules. Christianity is about a person relationship with Jesus. The Gospel aka Good News is just that! Salvation is free because of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Yes, we need to live by the 10 Commandments. But we do not have over 600 more rules to try to live by. Freedom in Christ is just that. Freedom from religion.
